The Bridges
This is the last bridge. However, it could just as easily be the first because your beliefs create your thoughts and create your emotions, which you act upon.
Everything in these bridges is about changing those beliefs to change your thoughts. A belief is something, a set of ideas we believe to be true.
Here are 2 metaphors: your beliefs are like a painter who paints a picture. You see whatever your beliefs are is the picture that you will paint.
What you paint with those brushes and paints is what you see, will form your experience.
Change your belief, change your picture, in other words you change your belief, you change your experience of the world.
Look at it another way: imagine you’re a photographer photographing the world.
Depending on the lens that you use will affect how you see the world. Change the lens, change the belief or that part of yourself that you’re looking at the world and you’ll change what you see.
What does this mean? That we have the power to see what we want to see. We can choose what we want to see. So inevitably, if we’re in a state of anxiety, we’re looking at the world through a negative lens. Or you’re painting a picture of the world which is different from the one which you really want. We see the world through our fears.
So whether the world looks dark or we look through a darker lens that is what we see.
The first step is to realise that what we see is not reality. Our beliefs about ourself become negative when we are flooded with anxiety. Our self-esteem and self-worth goes down, we are more critical of ourselves, we think less of ourselves, we feel less important, we want to withdraw, we want to stay small, and we want to hide from the world.
However, this is just our belief that we have formed based on unwanted adrenaline in our systems.
This whole method is about taking control, all the steps from the first to the last is about taking control, asserting ourselves, asserting our individuality, realising that we are important regardless of whatever it is that we’re doing.
We are important just because we are breathing. A fear is just a challenge for us to push through and to face. Ultimately, the more we like ourselves, the happier we’ll be. We have talents to be creative, to put into practice, we have gifts, use those gifts. That is a chance for us to grow and expand. You have an amazing imagination, we all have amazing imaginations, harness the power of our imagination.
Think about it: we choose our beliefs. Our beliefs are a set of ideas, they’re not real. They can be changed. You can change them to a new set of beliefs. If you believe in your lack of self-worth, you are driven by anxiety, realise that you believe it, it is not true.
As soon as you change that, you will change these responses and fulfil the potential that is the real you.
