07. Words & Thoughts

The Bridges
The Problem
When we look at our mind, we seem to have an uncontrollable series of thoughts that emerge out of nowhere.
We have lots of thoughts and we identify them with words, metaphors, stories and images.
The lack of perspective that we have on our thoughts can bring on a lot of anxiety. What are all these things going around in my head?
We have so many thoughts and they’re flitting through our minds, often repeatedly, and we need a way to “capture” these thoughts and get a perspective on them.
What I advocate is 3 things;
1. Write it down
First of all, whatever comes to you, you can write it down. This is a taking action step because what you’re actually doing is you’re writing down the thoughts that you have, and it makes it possible to realize what you are thinking and to try and put some of them together. Write them down and reread them. Save your thoughts and return to them from time to time.
2. Listen to stories
Another way to clarify things that are not clear is to listen to other people’s stories. Learn to become a better listener.
Go to a group where people are talking about their problems. You can also read other people’s stories which enables you to identify with similar things that you’re thinking.
You will read and hear other people’s like-minded thought processes and then you can actually see any negative consequences that your thoughts may be doing to you.
Sometimes just sitting down and listening to other people will make a light go on and you will realize that you have been making a mistake. It’s a great way for you to see your own thoughts “out there” so you can get a better perspective on your thoughts.
3. Question your Thoughts
The third step is to always question your own thoughts. Your thoughts are causing these feelings because you believe them to be true.
I’ve already talked about this idea in terms of “It’s a bluff” and “It’s a con”.
By questioning the truth of your thoughts and by starting to question the things that hold them up, we erode away any negative power they may have over us.
Once we are one step removed from those thoughts, they don’t have the same power over us.
EFT
Finally, a technique which is amazingly powerful is called EFT.
All you basically do is examine your thoughts and then tap on certain energy meridians that correspond with certain locations on your body.
If a negative thought causes a disruption in your energy field and you feel bad, you simply tap on the corresponding energy points and it changes the feeling. It’s as simple as that.
You can do this hundreds, thousands of times and it’s totally safe.
It’s just a way for you to let go of your thoughts and it’s a phenomenally powerful thing. You can do this anywhere, at any time, in any place.
However, sometimes you may want some privacy to tap on the meridians as you tap on certain places. This is a technique that brings results.
What I’m advocating here is that, when people who are in the pits of despair, are down, this can be a ladder to them back up and out of it.
